RUE MORGUE REVIEW: Even with some unusually notable casting (including Phyllis Diller as Miss Poopinplatz), 1991's The Boneyard hasn't exactly lingered in our collective memory, but Mystic Vault has made a great find here: a score that works equally well as an isolated listen. It begins with an overture that feels more akin to a dark-tinged swashbuckler la Army of Darkness (which it predates), laying out a gauntlet of energy the rest of the score is compelled to follow. Far from being a series of menacing chords and jump-scare stings (which are still here), Whitener's score also uses textures from pizzicato strings and various percussion, as well as melodic elements that make the low-budget horror film feel a lot bigger than it is - not unlike just about every one of Richard Band's Full Moon scores. To top it off, we even get Rick Riso's power ballad "Brave Heart" to close things out. - JEFF SZPIRGLAS
